DiskImageMounter DiskImageMounter is the utility that handles mounting disk. Hours of release, Apple announced that there were over one million downloads. Sometimes when I download something I get it as a MPEG when it should be a DMG. I tried just clicking DiskImageMounter.app, but only got a 'puff of.
I am currently using OSX 10.5.8 Leopard and have run into a problem. When ever I attempt to mount a.DMG file, Finder goes unresponsive and will not re launch. The.DMG is downloaded from a verified clean source and the default program to open is the Disk Image Mounter Utility. I try going to /System/Library/Core Services, and I see the Disk Image Mounter Utility listed, yet when I attempt to open it, nothing happens and it is not even listed in the activity monitor.
I have tried mounting several.DMG files and each time the same problem occurs and can only be solved by rebooting the system. I have just recently tried updating my software to the latest version and still no fix.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
I am trying to download the trial version of Photoshop Elements 6 from the Adobe website onto my iMac. However, it keeps failing because I don't have the diskimagemounter.app. Adobe help was anything but helpful. Hopefully someone here can help me. Please describe in detail the exact actions and things i need to do to make this happen. For example, someone told me to download stuffit expander. OK, THEN WHAT?
I'm not really smart when it comes to computers. I have spent a good part of a week trying different things but keep getting the same results.
I am getting frustrated. I even re-installed the Mac OS to see if it would help. Look forward to a reply.
First, you should search for DiskImageMounter.app on your hard disk. On normal installations of OS X 10.3 (Panther) and later, it will be located in /Library/CoreServices/. It it's not there, you'll have to somehow get a replacement (reinstalling OS X is usually the easiest method). By the way, Stuffit Expander won't work. It can open a variety of archives, but it cannot mount Mac disk images (dmg). There are some Windows utilities which can extract dmg files too, if you're interested in taking that route. First see if you have the DiskImage Mounter on your computer: HD-Systems-Library-Core Services-DiskImage Mounter Not sure how that is installed but think it is part of the original Operating System.
If that is the case then reinstall the OS & updates. Do you backup your computer HD? If you do not then you should as anytime you start making changes there is danger of losing data.
